Many debates have risen over the years on the best sources of traffic for your internet marketing efforts. The reality is that as the internet evolves so does traffic. Early on sources of traffic started out with internet directories and banner ads. Eventually it has evolved to what we know today like social media and search engine optimization.
The two main sources of traffic for most digital marketers are free traffic and paid traffic. These are pretty self explanatory but the major differences will also have a set of major expectation differences as well. While free traffic is great, most marketers will find the hidden investment with this is time. How much time do you have to put the work in to drive the amount of traffic you need. Yes the return is higher when a sale occurs but you also have to add a value to what your time is worth.
Common Free Traffic Options:
- Social Media
- Blog commenting and posting
- Forum Postings
- Question & Answers sites
Keep in mind that each type of traffic options have their own perspective rules and etiquette. It’s a very wise to familiarize yourself with those rules. So driving traffic from those websites as a break in these rules could get you banned from the website. Also be sure to check what kind of linking is allowed, details of your signature, and the rules of they consider is spam.

A good rule of thumb when purchasing clicks is “if it’s too good to be true then it probably is”. What we mean by that is that if you find an offering that is ridiculously cheap then it’s probably not worth it. Again do your research or find a coach to help you. The internet is ever changing and being up-to-date on traffic solutions will be key in your business moving forward.
