Now for some of you, my morning ritual is gong to sound crazy – but for others, you might see some similarities. The key is to find the ritual and routine that works for you.
That said, even if you’re not an early riser and have convinced yourself you never will be (after all, you’re a ‘night owl’ right?), I would at least encourage you to give this a shot. Just try it for 2 weeks and see what happens. Go on …
I wake up every day between 5 and 5.30 and I try to start my day with hot water and lemon, but I’ll be honest, 50% of the time it’s a big cup of coffee! Then, depending on work schedules, I either start by writing or I’ll do some yoga and meditate.
Meditation is new for me and a real struggle, but I’m at a point where I need to settle my overactive brain and bring some calm and peace into my thoughts, so I’m trying to stick with it. Instinctively I know it will be good for me and the moment I started to think of meditation as a workout for the brain, it began to make more sense.
Depending on the time of the year, at 6 I will either go for a run (if it’s light) or work out at home. My preferred method of torture? A mix of kettle bells, TRX and good old Jillian Michaels on YouTube. At least twice a week, I will work out in the park with my trainer Suzy.
Working out with Suzy makes all the difference to me. It took a long time to find a trainer that ‘got’ me, but she always keeps me on my toes and makes training tough but fun.
6.30-7 it’s time to wake up Jett and, just like his Mum, once he’s awake, he’s up, so I rarely have any drama getting him out of bed. Fingers crossed this lasts forever!
Next up, breakfast … Which is usually the healthiest meal of my day and consists of one of these staples:
1. Baked Porridge: Oats, almond milk, frozen berries, flaxseed, cinnamon all chucked into a dish and put into the oven for 25 mins (whilst I exercise). Top with fresh berries and agave. Done!
2. Veggie burger, poached egg and avocado. Simple.
3. Protein Pancakes: Cottage cheese, coconut flour, ground almonds, protein powder, banana, egg whites, cinnamon. Whisk up in the Nutribullet. Add coconut oil to pan. Quick flip and voila!
At this point, I’m usually out of the door with seconds to spare for the school run … If I’m lucky I will have managed a shower, but often that has to wait ’til I get back! Good job I work for myself!
So what does your morning ritual look like?
